In 1989, under the auspices of the Wisconsin Federation of Music Clubs (WFMC), the Diane Remy Schoolof Dance and Baton, Inc. became affiliated with the WFMC and dance students have participated in festivals by taking their dance exams and working toward WFMC Gold Cups.

Some of you may already be familiar with the National Federation of Music Clubs through the school music festivals where students work toward a rating in a particular musical category. Dance students participate in much the same way. A syllabus has been written for Ballet, Tap, and Jazz dance at various levels. The students work on this syllabus for a certain amount of time during their regular lessons. Then they are examined on this material and rated on a score sheet by judges on a 0 to 5 point system. Points are accumulated over a period of years working toward getting a Gold Cup. Participants need to reach 15 points in order to bring home a Gold Cup. Students can go on and potentially get a maximum of 4 Gold Cups.

This is a wonderful opportunity for students to take part in a competition where they are not competing against each other--their competition is only with the dance syllabus. Students are graded on Appearance, Rhythm, Performance, Dynamics, Technique, and Understanding of the material. This experience provides incentive to work hard in class, and to work as a team as they help each other when studying for exams. Diane Remy School of Dance and Baton, Inc. is extremely proud of our participation in this program and in all of our students who work toward this goal.

The Diane Remy School of Dance and Baton, Inc. formed a Junior Dance Club called "Keep Dancing" that dedicates time toward the dance exams. This year Keep Dancing will host the dance exams that will be in our Studio on Sunday, February 4, 2008.
